Rewarding Major Conferences and Encouraging Other Conferences to Compete

  • Conferences’ collective strength is measured at the end of each season using a cumulative Conference BCS score
    • Conference BCS score calculated by adding the BCS points earned by a Conference’s teams that are in the BCS Top 25 at the end of the regular season

  • The Conference Champions from the top 6 Ranked BCS Conferences will be given an automatic slot in the Quarterfinals of the playoff system in the following year
    • Use of Conference BCS scores to rank conferences makes it possible for any conference to qualify as a Top 6 Ranked BCS Conference if it should increase its level of play to have one of the Top 6 Conference BCS scores

    • Encourages all conferences to continue maintaining and pursuing the highest level of play and competition
