Managing BCS Playoff Sites

How bcs playoff bowl sites are managed

Selecting the Playoff Bowls

  • Tier 1 BCS Bowls are determined by the four Bowls with the top payouts to each team in the current year

  • Tier 2 BCS Bowls are determined by the Bowls with the next five highest payouts to each team in the current year (after Tier 1 BCS Bowls are set)
  • This rewards the bowls who do the best …

1) promotion, and

2) fundraising to offer the highest payouts

… to be a part of the Playoff System as a Tier 2 BCS Bowl, while still maintaining the higher prestige and status of the larger Tier 1 BCS Bowls.

Rotating the Tier 1 and Tier 2 Bowls in the Playoff Bracket

  • Tier 1 BCS Bowls rotate amongst Tier 1 BCS playoff slots each year (as the BCS Championship game does now)

  • Tier 2 BCS Bowls rotate amongst Tier 2 BCS playoff slots sites each year
